Kristina Jhing Sillona

Kristina blends the soul of an artist with the acumen of an educator in her 30-year tenure as a musician, singer, performer, and mentor. As the Headmaster of the So Cal Conservatory of Music, she's both a guide and a catalyst for aspiring and professional musicians, singers, and artists, steering them towards not just mastery of their craft but also towards sustainable teaching careers. Kristina’s own musical journey is adorned with international honors, including multi-platinum and gold award accolades. She continues to grace stages in the U.S. and worldwide under her nickname, Jhing, echoing her belief in music’s healing power through her tours and her enterprise, Music Is Bliss. Kristina is a testament to the profound impact of music, teaching its therapeutic potential to touch lives beyond mere entertainment as a Music Healing Artist. Her vision is clear: music is a healing force, and sharing this gift is her life's work.

Maria Cantu

Maria Cantu leads the Conservatory after teaching for over seventeen years, specializing in both piano and AP Music Theory. Her years of teaching with the Conservatory led to her desire to pursue a career in education. She continued developing her passion for education at California State University, Northridge, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. Maria’s goal as a music educator is to help every student enjoy making music, and to provide an environment where students can reach their highest potential. She carefully crafts her lessons to each students’ needs, passing on her love of music to her students in an inspiring and engaging manner.

Tina Weiss - Emeritus

Tina Weiss

Tina Weiss founded the Conservatory in 1968, originally the Southern California Piano Conservatory. Tina developed her own methodology and through the years has changed many lives with her teaching. She is a born educator, having taught piano, voice, music theory, directed choirs, and performed professionally throughout the country. One of her most noteworthy accomplishments is starting the Conservatory Teacher Training Program, the first and only of its kind in the nation.

A prominent member of the Jewish community, Tina trained many Cantors both privately and as a faculty member of the Academy for Jewish Religion. In 2006, Tina and her husband Murray founded the SCPC Foundation to give back to their community through music. They provided financial and academic scholarships to hundreds of young musicians. Tina retired as Headmaster of the Conservatory in 2021 and now serves as Emeritus of the So Cal Conservatory of Music.

Michael Carvin

Michael Carvin is a drummer of extraordinary talent, inventiveness and technique. His mastery affords him the ability to handle any musical situation and to skillfully pass on his knowledge of the instrument to an ever increasing number of students internationally.

In addition to leading his own bands, Mr. Carvin's vast playing and recording experience includes work with Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Jackie McLean, Hank Jones, McCoy Tyner, and so many others.

  • Julianne Sillona - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Julianne Sillona

    ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF VOCAL ARTS, TEACHER OF VOICE & PIANO

    Julianne Sillona comes from a family of musicians and has been performing professionally since she was a child. Her talent was recognized as a young performer when she was awarded the Maestro Award at the World Strides Heritage Performance in Canada for Exceptional Musicianship. Julianne grew up as a piano student in the Conservatory and began training in the Teacher Program at the age of thirteen. She has taught piano, voice, and Music Theory for ten years. Her passion in teaching and performing grew through the lessons she received, and she hopes to pass it on through teaching music to others. Julianne also has a love for theater and has performed lead roles in Sister Act, The Little Mermaid, and In The Heights. She is currently working on her undergrad at CalArts, majoring in Jazz and touring professionally across the United States.

  • Micaella Landers - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Micaella Landers

    TEACHER OF VOICE & PIANO

    Micaella Landers is a professional vocalist, musician, and session artist. She has been active in the music industry her whole life and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Arts from the Los Angeles College of Music. Micaella also frequently gigs in venues and studios in Los Angeles, including playing the Echo Park Rising Festival and the 2018 NAMM show with the esteemed Roland Corporation band. Presently, Micaella performs all over the U.S. as a professional singer, in addition to singing and writing her own music. Her passion for music drives her to go the extra mile for her students, and she truly enjoys teaching all levels of students with the So Cal Conservatory, as well as at the collegiate level at Los Angeles College of Music.

  • Deejay Poblete - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Deejay Poblete

    TEACHER OF PIANO & UKULELE

    Deejay Poblete has been singing since she was four years old. In high school she competed and won the title of North American champion for GMA7's Pinoy Pop Superstar, and even competed in the Philippines. She then moved to the Philippines and became the lead vocalist of the pop rock band Kley and received an Aliw Award in 2016 for "Best New Artist (Group)". In 2017, she released solo singles "Teka Muna" and "Natutunaw" on digital music platforms. She is now part of an acoustic duo called "A Couple of Notes" with her husband, Noah Zuniga. Deejay is a trained teacher of piano at So Cal Conservatory of Music where she enjoys enriching the lives of her students with music.

  • Odelia Sheelo - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Odelia Sheelo

    TEACHER OF PIANO

    Odelia Sheelo is a Junior at California State University Northridge studying computer science with a minor in mathematics. She has been studying piano under the So Cal Conservatory for fifteen years and teaching for five. Odelia loves sharing her passion for piano and music with young musicians and encourages them to reach their fullest potential. Outside of piano, she is also self-taught at guitar and loves to sing. In some ways, Odelia believes that programming and playing piano go hand in hand; just as a computer reads code, we read music to produce wonderful songs.

  • Alexander Smith

    TEACHER OF DRUMS & PERCUSSION

    Alexander Smith is a professional musician born and raised in the greater Los Angeles area. In 2016, he graduated from UCLA with an undergraduate degree in Ethnomusicology. He is fluent in many styles of music from classic rock, jazz, Brazilian, afro-cuban, rumba, as well as the classical percussion family including the timpani, snare, and mallet instruments. Alex is a lover of playing other instruments such as bass and keyboard, as he believes having an understanding of these instruments reinforces the symbiotic nature of music (melody, harmony and rhythm). He is a professional musician as well as a teacher at the So Cal Conservatory of Music.

  • Ivy Steiner

    TEACHER OF PIANO

    Ivy Steiner is a Sophomore at Wildwood High School. She has been playing piano and studying music theory with the So Cal Conservatory for over 9 years. Ivy is a student-teacher trained in the Conservatory Teacher Mentoring Program, and passes on her love of music to beginning piano students in Sherman Oaks. Ivy also dedicates her free time to studying ballet and contemporary dance, and has been dancing competitively in Los Angeles for over 8 years.

  • June Youngblood

    TEACHER OF GUITAR & BASS

    June Youngblood is an LA based singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. While growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, she started her career as an electric and upright bass player. She is a gigging musician in many genres as a sideman and bandleader with a foundation in jazz and classical study. During the COVID-19 pandemic, June dove into songwriting, experimenting with acoustic and electric guitar. She combines influences of jazz, rock and folk music to write songs about grief, mental health and complicated relationships with a sensitive and powerful voice. She currently performs solo and with her band around Los Angeles and is preparing to record her first full length album.

  • Noah Zuniga - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Noah Zuniga

    TEACHER OF GUITAR & UKULELE

    Noah Zuniga is a singer-songwriter and musician who recently relocated to Los Angeles from Quezon City, Philippines. He launched his professional music career in 2008 where he wrote the song "Tsismosa"; the song was then included and released in "Kley" -- a self-titled album of the band he and his fellow musicians formed in 2010. Noah joined the songwriting competition "Philpop" (Philippine Popular Music Festival) in 2012 where his song "Dulo ng Dila", interpreted by the R&B King JayR and Deejay Poblete, made it to the grand finals. He continued his career as a solo artist, music producer, jingle writer, and as part of a duo called, A Couple of Notes. Noah is thrilled to teach guitar and ukulele at So Cal Conservatory of Music. He loves sharing his knowledge for music with students, musicians, singers, and songwriters.
