Kristina Jhing Sillona

Kristina Sillona heads the So Cal Conservatory of Music with 30 years of experience as a musician, educator, and mentor. As a platinum recording artist and songwriter, she continues to perform globally, bringing real-world artistry into her teaching and leadership. At the heart of Kristina’s work is a deep commitment to meaningful, student-centered education. She integrates child development, psychology, and pedagogy into the Conservatory’s evolving curriculum, ensuring that each child is supported not just as a musician, but as a whole person. She trains and coaches teachers, and continually refines the systems that help both students and staff thrive with purpose and clarity. Under her leadership, the Conservatory remains a vibrant, values-driven community where music is a lifelong journey of growth, expression, and connection.

Maria Cantu

Maria Cantu leads the Conservatory with over 18 years of experience as a dedicated music educator, specializing in piano and AP Music Theory. Her journey as an educator began at the Conservatory itself under the mentorship of Emeritus Tina Weiss, where teaching as a young adult sparked a lifelong passion for education. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Northridge, further honing her skills in pedagogy. As Dean, she is deeply committed to nurturing both academic excellence and personal growth in every student. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating a learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential. Her leadership syle is rooted in collaboration, creativity, and joy, ensuring that the Conservatory continues to be a place where students are not only challenged but celebrated on their musical path.

Tina Weiss - Emeritus

Tina Weiss

Tina Weiss founded the Conservatory in 1968, originally the Southern California Piano Conservatory. Tina developed her own methodology and through the years has changed many lives with her teaching. She is a born educator, having taught piano, voice, music theory, directed choirs, and performed professionally throughout the country. One of her most noteworthy accomplishments is starting the Conservatory Teacher Training Program, the first and only of its kind in the nation.

A prominent member of the Jewish community, Tina trained many Cantors both privately and as a faculty member of the Academy for Jewish Religion. In 2006, Tina and her husband Murray founded the SCPC Foundation to give back to their community through music. They provided financial and academic scholarships to hundreds of young musicians. Tina retired as Headmaster of the Conservatory in 2021 and now serves as Emeritus of the So Cal Conservatory of Music.

Julianne Sillona

Julianne Sillona is a professional singer and performer, with over a decade of teaching experience in piano, voice, and music theory. She began her journey at the SoCal Conservatory as a student at the age of six years old and as a teacher-in-training at just thirteen. Recently promoted to Vocal Arts Director, Julianne teaches students and supervises teachers, shaped by the very path she once walked as a Conservatory graduate. She holds a BFA in Jazz Studies from The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts and continues to perform professionally. Julianne is currently recording her upcoming album, Sirena, and appears in a musical production of Rent, where she also serves as Assistant Music Director. Her teaching draws on her professional experience, combining solid fundamentals with the tools students need to grow into confident, capable performers.

  • Odelia Sheelo - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Odelia Sheelo

    TEACHER OF PIANO

    Odelia Sheelo is a Junior at California State University Northridge studying computer science with a minor in mathematics. She has been studying piano under the So Cal Conservatory for fifteen years and teaching for five. Odelia loves sharing her passion for piano and music with young musicians and encourages them to reach their fullest potential. Outside of piano, she is also self-taught at guitar and loves to sing. In some ways, Odelia believes that programming and playing piano go hand in hand; just as a computer reads code, we read music to produce wonderful songs.

  • Deejay Poblete - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Deejay Poblete

    TEACHER OF PIANO & UKULELE

    Deejay Poblete has been singing since she was four years old. In high school she competed and won the title of North American champion for GMA7's Pinoy Pop Superstar, and even competed in the Philippines. She then moved to the Philippines and became the lead vocalist of the pop rock band Kley and received an Aliw Award in 2016 for "Best New Artist (Group)". In 2017, she released solo singles "Teka Muna" and "Natutunaw" on digital music platforms. She is now part of an acoustic duo called "A Couple of Notes" with her husband, Noah Zuniga. Deejay is a trained teacher of piano at So Cal Conservatory of Music where she enjoys enriching the lives of her students with music.

  • Katie Ward - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Katie Ward is a professional singer and songwriter who has performed in venues all over Southern California. Her love for music was fostered from a young age by her dad, who taught her to play guitar and encouraged her to start writing her own songs. She decided to switch to focusing solely on music in college, earning a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from UCLA in 2018. Since then, she has loved sharing her joy for music with her students, developing their musical instincts and intuition, and then reinforcing with technique and theory. She is grateful to be able to keep music at the center of her life, and hopes to inspire her students to keep music a lifelong pursuit.

  • John Abernethy - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    John Abernethy is immersed in a musical legacy shaped by the big band era. He is currently pursuing his passion for jazz drums at CalArts, studying under esteemed musicians Jonathan Pinson, Andrew Gruechow, and Vinny Golia. Alongside his jazz endeavors, he embraces the performance of today’s popular music, showcasing his versatility and dedication to evolving musical landscapes. Passionate about teaching and community, John strives to inspire and educate aspiring musicians, sharing his knowledge and love for music to foster creativity and appreciation within the next generation of artists.

  • Ben Langlois - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    TEACHER OF PIANO

    Benjamin Langlois is a Senior at El Camino Real High School who has been studying piano and music theory at the Conservatory for more than a decade. Throughout the years, he has performed in numerous recitals and events, growing both as a musician and performer. After completing the Conservatory’s Teacher Training Program and refining his teaching skills, Ben is now a confident and capable student-teacher. He is passionate about sharing his love of music and rhythm with his students, whether through a pop song or a classical piece. Outside of music, Benjamin enjoys playing soccer, swimming, and staying active in his school’s NJROTC program.

  • Ivy Steiner

    TEACHER OF PIANO

    Ivy Steiner is a Sophomore at Wildwood High School. She has been playing piano and studying music theory with the So Cal Conservatory for over 9 years. Ivy is a student-teacher trained in the Conservatory Teacher Mentoring Program, and passes on her love of music to beginning piano students in Sherman Oaks. Ivy also dedicates her free time to studying ballet and contemporary dance, and has been dancing competitively in Los Angeles for over 8 years.

  • Micaella Landers - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    TEACHER OF VOICE & PIANO

    Micaella Landers is a professional vocalist, musician, and session artist. She has been active in the music industry her whole life and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Arts from the Los Angeles College of Music. Micaella also frequently gigs in venues and studios in Los Angeles, including playing the Echo Park Rising Festival and the 2018 NAMM show with the esteemed Roland Corporation band. Presently, Micaella performs all over the U.S. as a professional singer, in addition to singing and writing her own music. Her passion for music drives her to go the extra mile for her students, and she truly enjoys teaching all levels of students with the So Cal Conservatory, as well as at the collegiate level at Los Angeles College of Music.

  • June Youngblood

    TEACHER OF GUITAR & BASS

    June Youngblood is an LA based singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. While growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, she started her career as an electric and upright bass player. She is a gigging musician in many genres as a sideman and bandleader with a foundation in jazz and classical study. During the COVID-19 pandemic, June dove into songwriting, experimenting with acoustic and electric guitar. She combines influences of jazz, rock and folk music to write songs about grief, mental health and complicated relationships with a sensitive and powerful voice. She currently performs solo and with her band around Los Angeles and is preparing to record her first full length album.

  • Noah Zuniga - So Cal Conservatory of Music

    Noah Zuniga

    TEACHER OF GUITAR & UKULELE

    Noah Zuniga is a singer-songwriter and musician who recently relocated to Los Angeles from Quezon City, Philippines. He launched his professional music career in 2008 where he wrote the song "Tsismosa"; the song was then included and released in "Kley" -- a self-titled album of the band he and his fellow musicians formed in 2010. Noah joined the songwriting competition "Philpop" (Philippine Popular Music Festival) in 2012 where his song "Dulo ng Dila", interpreted by the R&B King JayR and Deejay Poblete, made it to the grand finals. He continued his career as a solo artist, music producer, jingle writer, and as part of a duo called, A Couple of Notes. Noah is thrilled to teach guitar and ukulele at So Cal Conservatory of Music. He loves sharing his knowledge for music with students, musicians, singers, and songwriters.
